Newsletter Update: Things Getting Real

Just a bit of positive news, including the results of the poll.

Hey everyone,

Things are starting to get real.

First, I got my first paid subscriber which is something that feels very good, obviously. I hope it's the beginning of a trend where people consider being a paid subscriber.

Second, we're going analogue with the newsletter. Recently I applied to get a panel at the local comic convention, Fan Expo Canada and it was approved. Meaning later this month, I will be going to an event as a guest. There are some details still to be worked out, but here's the general plan.

The panel is supposed to be called “Fandom Philosophy” with a focus on Artificial Intelligence for the upcoming first ever panel. Exploring the examples of Artificial Intelligence in various films and television shows and what we can learn from them and apply it in real life. Similar to what happens here on the newsletter, but in a real life setting and with other panelists you may have seen the work of already. Over time, the hope is that we can do a series of panels on different topics.

At the moment, this a test run so there are no plans to record the session but sometimes it does happen. The convention itself has recorded panels or they have ended up online. If that happens, we'll probably offer it initially to paid subscribers as a podcast. But that all assumes that people show up and they enjoy the panel. Most likely photos will be taken and be made available to paying subscribers after the event.

In order to do this more broadly though, it would be helpful to have more paying subscribers. With that in mind, I am going to be running a sale on paid subscriptions during Fan Expo. Watch out for an email with the details on the Thursday of the weekend, August 22-25, 2024.

So, here’s the results of the poll from last week. With this in mind, I’ll be releasing each piece the Monday after the next early access piece is released. Meaning that on third Friday of the month will have a new piece for paid subscribers and the Monday after that Friday will be a free version of the previous post.
