Children Ruin Everything and Having Children
The moral case for knowing what having children will do to your life.
Children are a blessing, or so many people say.
And they can be eventually, but it doesn't necessarily start out that way. The whole process of having children is stressful and emotional on so many levels. Depending on how long it takes to conceive a child, things can either take forever or get very complicated very quickly. Once you have children, there are all kinds of difficult aspects. Such as taking care of them all day every day in large part because they can't take care of themselves. It completely takes over your life so that you spend every waking moment worrying about how they're doing and most importantly what you're doing wrong. Yet even when they can do things for themselves, it's not going to be everything. They don't have jobs and can't make money so you have to do it for them. Mainly so that you can provide them with food and a place to sleep and so many of the necessities.
The thing which really becomes difficult though is when they start to have opinions of their own. Needs for things like candy or deserts instead of having to eat broccoli or whatever is actually good for them. As they get older, the more opinions they have and the harder it is for you to get them to do the things you want them to. Especially the things you know that they will need later on in life that they don't see the point in, like school and exercise and learning to get along with other children. It's even worse when you have more than one child. You have to put effort into keeping track of them because they each have their own needs and ideas about what they want to do with their time. One child can ask for very specific food for lunch or dinner while the other will eat pretty much everything and anything you put in front of them. Different children can want to do sports and take music but they both happen at the same time.
You might think that this is the worst of it, but it's not. Your own life can become incredibly chaotic thanks in large part to your kids. You will lose friends you've known since you were a kid yourself and have trouble going out to maintain your friendships. It can also make doing work that you need to pay the bills even worse. Which you need to make sure your kids are safe and happy, or as happy as you can be when you have kids. Your children change your whole world... and you still love them.
Children Ruin Everything is very much about what it's like to have children. Astrid and James, as played fantastically by Meaghan Rath and Aaron Abrams, are living in the chaos of trying to raise children. Felix and Viv are their children, played by Logan Nicholson and Mikayla SwamiNathan, who have thrown their lives into chaos. Nothing is easy or simple when it comes to doing whatever they can to raise them. Getting through every day is insane but they do it all for their children. To give them something resembling a life. Because at the end of the day, they love their children and each other.
No matter what gets in the way, they know this more than anything, and it's a beautiful thing to watch.
