Hmm, I've never seen Clerks, but this is an interesting problem. Where would you say the line is between apathy and stoicism? Is there one?

I would say that apathy is like giving up but without the more destructive aspects of not caring. You don’t care enough to hurt people.

Stoicism still allows you to care. It’s more about keeping your emotions in check when making decisions.

apathy is the opposite of growth and healing. when one doesn't grow any further in favour of apathy, one's world becomes very limited indeed. what a scary prospect!

It absolutely can be that apathy causes people's world to be very limited. However, people can find ways to enjoy that way of thinking. Which is mainly what people who think in apathetic terms tend to do.
