..and then there's the avoidance of life through death. The saddest part. I loved the original Final Destination film. The new concept of signs we all get in life that we miss if we're not paying attention. I have friends deeply into numerology who would understand this concept. The thing about birth is that we don't remember it. But we can imagine it after birth. The reality of death is that we can't remember it and we can't imagine it after death.

Not as far as we know anyway. The only way we understand birth is by creating life itself when we’re old enough.

Philosophically speaking, death is the only true personal experience in our lives. Birth? not very personal for the child. But death? it's yours and yours only, you can't even die for someone else.

Well yes, it’s the only thing that you can experience entirely from your own perspective. No one else gets your experience of death. Other people may be there to witness it, but they don’t feel what you feel.

Although I would argue that you can die for other people. That’s kinda the nature of sacrificing your life for others. Such as in war or people who run into buildings on fire and die saving lives. But ultimately you’re the one who experiences that.

true! although sacrificing your life in war doesn't make anyone else immortal. They would all still die (maybe delay their deaths, arguably some random dude in woopwoop was still not threatened by a war on the other side of the world but I digress)

No, they’re definitely not making anyone immortal. At least beyond people remembering the sacrifice being made. I imagine most people would appreciate the sacrifice.

Fair point!

Thank you! I am a longtime trauma ICU nurse and my passion project here is end of life care and all of the issues that surround it. America is a death adverse culture so it’s a battle. I will try and watch the movie, but am oddly a big scaredy cat when it comes to horror films.

I'm so glad that you found the piece so insightful, given what you do. You might not have a problem with this as a horror movie because it's not like others. I often don't enjoy horror movies myself, although I have seen many. What's different about Final Destination is that there is no masked killer with a knife or whatever stalking people. It's just actual death which is coming after them. There isn't the traditional violence you would normally see. Which might make it easier for you to watch.

I will definitely watch. Thank you. I often write about death. If you have time to read someday, I would love to hear your thoughts.
