I wanted to let you know that I managed to achieve the 150 subscribers goal. That feels really good obviously. I have some of the plan figured out for how I’m going to start rolling out the soft and hard launch that I talked about previously. Right now, I only have two people who I know are interested in the CoVid book which is currently private. If you want to get access to it, feel free to let me know by replying to this email or commenting below. Apparently subscribers can do that. I may or may not post the introduction to the book here at least temporarily, if people are interested in it here.
But I want to try and foster more opportunity to discuss things in more depth here as well.
With the recent addition of the Chat feature, I've been wondering whether I should use it. I’m not a huge fan of the chat feature as it’s currently However, I do worry about Substack getting too much like social media. Would you be interested in doing more of that?
One of the thoughts I had was about creating an opportunity for debates. I've covered many different topics even in the past almost 2 years that I've been publishing on Substack. I think there's a way to integrate debates on various topics. Some of the ideas I've come up with so far include:
Be It Resolved:
Topic: Murder is Always Wrong
Topic: Everybody is a Hero
Topic: Sacrificing Others for Survival is Justifiable
I would put forward many options arguing for or against the argument and encourage people to discuss it in depth.
Finally, something I've been thinking about is discussing the fact that I've been previously cancelled. It's actually happened several times over the years. At least in my view anyway. This has left me in a pretty bad space in terms of my ability to function in society. I was inspired in part by another Substacker to write something for them but I think I might also post it here. How would people feel about that?
Congratulations on meeting your goal! I agree that the debates sound interesting. I'm also not a fan of the chat feature (or the app) and would prefer to use discussion threads and comments. That seems to be working well enough. So sorry about your brush with cancellation. Punishing people for ideological nonconformity is the ethical cancer of our age.
The debate idea sounds interesting. Are you thinking of doing it as a podcast? I'm sorry to hear that you've been canceled and that it has caused you troubles. I'd rather use the comments sections for discussion rather than Substack's "chat" feature.
